National Account Manager - Discounters

We’re working with a leading consumer goods company producing high-quality products that have been a staple in the category and have grown a very loyal customer base. They are a passionate large team, with market-leading brands in every market where they operate, delivering a full range of products all across Europe as well as New Zealand and Australia with the ambition to continue to grow the business at the impressive rates that are showing.

They are looking for a dedicated National Account Manager to manage both the Home Bargains & B&M accounts. You will be responsible for developing and delivering the annual sales plan with overall P&L accountability for your accounts. This role involves creating joint business plans with each national account that align with channel and sales strategy, fostering growth in existing and new business opportunities across your portfolio.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement annual business plans across the account base to achieve sales growth, profit, and distribution goals.
  • Create and execute account-specific promotional plans to meet range, space, and ROI objectives.
  • Influence and manage trading relationships to achieve agreed sales plans, profitability, and market share.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Supply Chain teams to devise annual trading plans that maximize sales and margin opportunities.
  • Manage the annual NPD customer presentations and range review process, developing and implementing collaborative annual trading plans.
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment and support (Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance) for collective strategic goals.
  • Negotiate and manage trading terms agreements within budgets, developing promotional programs to maximize ROI.
  • Monitor and review each national account’s sales performance, recommending recovery plans as needed.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrable National Account management experience, preferably within an FMCG company.
  • Full understanding and experience of how to manage a P&L.
  • Excellent commercial acumen.
  • Cross-functional exposure, with particular knowledge of supply chain and marketing.
  • Familiarity with Category Management techniques and experience using consumer and shopper data to make compelling business cases.
  • Strong negotiating skills and experience developing compelling annual commercial plans.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • High energy, self-starter, and collaborative team player.
  • Effective cross-functional communication skills, both internally and with customers.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, using new media and IT tools.
  • Commitment to building and sustaining strong business relationships with customers.
  • Ambition for promotion and a mentality to seek higher responsibility within the organization.
